Coy Privette showed a big middle finger to his Party and his constituents today.
A statement he released clearly states he will not resign as County Commissioner."I realize the mistake I made in my private life affects my reputation. This mistake has been dealt with, and I am ready to move forward," the Republican said in an e-mail to area reporters.
First of all I want to say that no, the "mistake" he has made (at least 6 times) has not been dealt with. Privette is under supervised probation for a year, hasn't done a minute of the 48 hours of community service yet he was sentenced to and I'm sure the "psychological treatment" he was receiving isn't over yet either.
"I intend to continue to serve the citizens of Cabarrus County."
In a statement Coy Privette handed to the press right after his sentencing in court, he says:"I am going to be dedicating considerable time and effort to repair myself. I am already seeking professional attention to this end."
I guess that by "considerable time" he meant exactly a week???
Coy privette has lost all credibility as a politician and admits to needing psychological help, yet wants to pretend that everything is business as usual.
The arrogance Privette displayed today by just wanting to carry on as if nothing has happened is incomprehensible.
Since Mr. Privette obviously can not understand why he should resign, the people of Cabarrus County will have to tell him.
The time for action has come!
You can help in several ways:
First of all you can surf to the websites of the Charlotte Observer and the Independent Tribune and participate in the polls these two papers are running on their front page, let it be known that you want Coy Privette to resign. I know from an insider that Mr. Privette pays close attention to these online polls, especially the one from the Independent Tribune.
Second, please send an email to coyresign@gmail.com and explain to Mr. privette why you want him to resign. Please try to stay at least halfway polite. All received emails will be personally handed to Mr. Privette at the next County Commissioner meeting. By not sending your emails directly to Privette we can keep track of the number of people who are asking him to resign, since Mr. Privette himself can not be trusted to give anyone accurate numbers about how his constituents feel.
Third, show up at the next County Commissioner meeting in Concord on September 17. A protest will be organized right before the meeting (6.15 pm) so the local press can see that the citizens of Cabarrus County are not willing to pretend nothing has happened. We will then also attempt to give all the emails you've sent to Mr. Privette himself.
This is not about political revenge. I'm openly inviting any citizen from whatever political party to join me in expressing our outrage. For political strategy purposes it would be much better for me as a Democrat to leave Privette on the commission, he would be an easy target for a next election. No, this is about doing the right thing and "practicing what you preach" Mr. Privette.

What is it with the Republican Party? First let me say Im a life long Republican. Why has my party suddenly become dominated by leaders who need such deviant behavior apparently to get along day to day. First the congressman from Florida, then the Senator from Idaho, numerous local elected officials from around the country and Coy Privette, our supposed beacon of morality. I have personally heard this man make speeches where he said an elected leader must lead by example and now he tries to shove this off with a statement that this is his personal life and it should not matter as it relates to his being a Cabarrus County commissioner.. How unbeleiveably hypcritical!! I grant you good points have been made about Juba and her involvement with less than honorable people. Her and her companies maneuverings in business perhaps should be investigated. Perhaps she is involved in knowingly hiring illegal aliens. But still what Privette has done pales in comparision. No doubt the board of commissioners is now dominated by people with big money that cater to taking care of their own. Whether it be developers, the local bankers, or the last of the county textile barons.
Still I would hope the past supporters of Privette are no longer going along blindly listening to his rhetoric about you need to follow me because Im such a great moral leader. Ha!!! I undersrtand he has had numerous trips to China paid for by local churches so he could teach English to the children of China. Surely you wonder what he has been doing in another country as unregulated as China when it comes to policing sexual proclivities. Come on fellow citizens it is time to wake up as it relates to the Reverend Privette. Be at the next commissioners meeting to make clear that you want this guy gone and no longer an embarasment to our county.
I'm glad to receive a lot of comments on the whole Privette story from Republicans who seem just as angry, if not more, as I am. I know there's not a lot of bi-partisan issues anymore, but this is one of them.

The mention was made of the Juba matter - remember who is the one that got that stirred up? None other than the good Reverend and his acccomplice, Harold Smith. There was never any proof, although it was asked for again and again. It was one of Coy's political tricks.

You've hit the nail on the head. Coy Privette built his political career out of throwing stones and pretending to me holier than thou.
Not a support of Coy, but truth is truth - but I know for a fact that the Chinese government actually picks up all the expenses for the trips to teach English - not churches. There are many who go on these trips besides church people
Actually their are churches right here in Cabarrus that fund missions to China and teach english. If Mr. privettes's trips are paid by the Chinese I intend to write the Cinese embassy today and inform them of his crimes. I would urge others to do the same as many of these types attacks on children occur outside the U.S.
I agree that none of our elected leaders are above aproach - including Comm. Juba. I have heard allegations about her from somebody who worked with her - not Coy. People who use their office to benefit themselves, deceive the public and help their friends should be under more scrutiny than Coy Privette!!!
Every day I'm learning more and more about less and less.
Pretty soon, I'll know almost everything there is to know about.... nothing!
I don't want Coy Privette spending my tax dollars! He reportedly paid $4,000.00 for 6 sex acts, coming out to $666.67 per act! Not
a good use of his money! If he spends tax dollars as wastefully as that, get him off the board NOW!
