Another one

Is there some kind of weird virus going around in the midst of Baptist preachers?

Cops: Virginia Minister Flashed Kids While Urinating, Offered Officers Oral Sex

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — A Baptist minister and Christian radio station employee has been charged with indecent exposure as well as DUI and violation of the open container law, the Kingsport Times-News reported.

Tommy Tester, 58, of Bristol, Va., was arrested last week by Johnson City police after they say he urinated in front of children at a car wash.
Police also said Tester, who was wearing a skirt, offered to perform oral sex on officers who responded to the car wash.
You can find the complete story at the Kingsport Times-News.

The Concord Standard: "Privette should resign".

This weeks edition of our "hometown newspaper", The Concord Standard, has an interesting editorial with the all-saying title "Privette should resign". You can read the complete editorial on their website.
It clearly states that "he should resign immediately from his seat on the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners."
Apparently they came to the same conclusion as I did: "The cloud of six charges of aiding and abetting prostitution will be far too much of a distraction for him to effectively serve on the board."
The Concord Standard can hardly be accused of having a "liberal bias" in the past, so I'm sure this article might come as a surprise to some republicans, but the editorial just demonstrates some common sense.

Mr. Privette doesn't need to resign because of what he did, but because of the fact that his pending court case doesn't allow him to concentrate anymore on his job as County Commissioner. Privette needs to concentrate on his family and defense and allow somebody else to replace him on the Board. The best proof of this is the fact that Coy Privette didn't show up at the recent Board of Commissioners meeting. If "regular" people don't show up for work, they get fired. Mr. Privette apparently can't get fired, so he should resign.

Even his own republican Commissioner colleagues are coming to that same conclusion according to another article on the front page of the same paper. It quotes the republican chair of the commissioners board, Bob Carruth, as saying "If I were to switch places with him, I would have to consider stepping down."

Coy Privette will have his first day in court on August 22nd. If he would be found not guilty of any charges he can get his job back as far as I'm concerned, but the likely hood of that happening is about as big as Fox News endorsing Barack Obama for President.

Mr. Privette, resign already and let Cabarrus County move forward while you deal with your personal issues.

Where's Coy?

As I predicted, Coy Privette didn't show up at the Cabarrus County Commissioners meeting tonight.
Instead he had his lawyer release a statement this afternoon stating:

“Dear (County Manager) John Day and Fellow Commissioners: The issues on the agenda tonight are very important to the citizens of Cabarrus County. My attendance may distract from the issues; therefore, I will not attend the commissioners meeting tonight.”
Translation: I'm too embarrassed to show my face and certainly don't want to answer any pesky press questions and explain my actions to the people that elected me.

At this point I'm thinking that Mr. Privette will keep hiding until the day he has to appear in court (August 22nd). Maybe he's hoping this whole thing will just blow over.
Hopefully after his court date he will draw the conclusions that he should have already drawn this week.
Of course, Privette is not guilty until convicted in a court of law.
But like I read in a column in the Charlotte observer this weekend :
"We should also say that it's unlikely the State Bureau of Investigation would issue warrants against a sitting public servant without feeling sure they've got the goods."
Tonights meeting began with Chairman Bob Carruth asking that the public “reserve comments for blog sites.” Maybe he reads mine??
Carruth called the situation “a shock.”
“It’s certainly not something we want to see happen,” Carruth said.

Most of the Commissioners meeting was spent on another debate over the downtown jail. More on that in a later post.

Do we really need to talk about the sex life of an old man?

Cabarrus County Commissioner Coy Privette seems to have "skipped town", probably waiting until this whole sex scandal storm has blown over.
Should we even be talking about this whole thing? Shouldn't we let the guy just deal with his personal problems? In the case of Mr. Privette I think we should talk about it and I'll explain why.

Coy Privette's whole political career is built around being a person of "high moral values". Now it seems that that whole reputation was just a lie it directly influences how He can or can not serve as a politician any longer.
As I said before, for me this case isn't really about the sex, it's about the total hypocrisy of a politician. I'm not interested in all the lurid details of what Coy Privette did specifically, I'm interested in the hypocritical aspect of it.
I know in John 8 it says, "The one without sin among you should be the first to throw a stone..."
The problem is that Mr. Privette has done nothing but throw stones his whole life.
One example: Coy Privette called a friend of mine who organized a vote on serving liquor by the drink in our local bars and restaurants an "agent of the devil".
We all know that we're not perfect, but I don't feel like telling someone how they should or should not have sex, if they should drink and/or gamble or not. Coy Privette did.

This was not a one time mistake, Coy Privette is charged with six counts of aiding and abetting prostitution. I also have a strong suspicion (not hard evidence) that this has been going on for a much longer time. A friend of mine that works in the medical field here in Cabarrus County stated to me that "If you knew what I know you could have seen this coming for years".
This person of course didn't want to elaborate, since there is such a thing as medical confidentiality. I'm not sure if i even want to know more.

The problem is that even if Privette, 74, were convicted of the charges, Cabarrus County Manager John Day said "Privette’s fellow commission members do not have legal power to remove him from the board."
Shouldn't we make sure that we have that legal power?
Once convicted, a commissioner should be required to resign from the County Commission especially (and this is not the case for Privette) if convicted of a crime that is in anyway related to his position as a County Commissioner (e.g. taking bribes).

I believe that if Mr. Privette thinks he's innocent, he should take a leave of absence from his County Commission seat so he can fully concentrate on his defense and his family. If Mr. Privette knows that he's guilty of the charges he should resign.
His first chance to make up his mind is this Monday's County Commissioners meeting.
I'll be there, but I have a strong suspicion that Coy will be nowhere in sight.

Coy Privette visits prostitute?!?

Well I guess I have a gift. I am now officially clairvoyant.
Exactly one week ago I posted a story on here called "What is it with republicans and sex?", about the resignation of State rep. Almond.
One of the last sentences in that was:

Is it just a matter of time until we find Coy Privette or Robin Hayes with their pants around their ankles?
Today we know the answer:
Former state legislator Coy C. Privette, a Cabarrus County commissioner and Christian activist, faces charges of soliciting prostitution.
The allegations involve alleged meetings at Rowan County hotel rooms with the same prostitute, dating back several months.
Next to being a prominent republican, Mr. Privette is the president of the Christian Action League of North Carolina.
Another victory for the party of "family values"? And will Robin Hayes be next as I predicted?

I'll write more about this as the story unfolds.

I'm a girlie communist! (allegedly)

This evening the well known rock star and lightning rod of the peace movement Cindy Sheehan was in Charlotte. She was stopping in town while walking from Atlanta, GA to Washington, DC to demand the impeachment of the president.
While I believe there are more than enough reasons to impeach (way more than there ever were for the impeachment of Clinton), I wasn't really planning on joining the protest until I read in the Charlotte observer this morning that there was also a counter protest planned.
Since I'm always up for a good shouting match and argument I decided to take my hybrid to Bryant Park and join the festivities.
When I first arrived I thought I had run into a gathering of the Hell's Angels (you know, the biker type that drives around South Carolina without a helmet wearing a t-shirt that says on the back "if you can read this the bitch fell off") but it turns out these were the counter protesters.
Since I was carrying my big sign that read "Worst president EVER" , they quickly figured out I wasn't with them.
After making my way through a wall of TV News vans I arrived at My gang.

From a hippie type playing the flute to a woman dressed like a giant peach that said "impeach" on it, these were my peeps. Pretty soon after I had arrived some speeches started, but i was more interested in the counter protesters. They were just 10 feet away from us, so I could take in all the lovely remarks they were shouting. From "traitor" to "communist" and "girlie men" to "your son would be ashamed of you", all the classic comments blew over Me. Ironically the guy that yelled out "girlie men" had bigger breasts than My wife (and she's a C cup), so I'll let you decide who the real girlie man is.
I decided to be the grown up here and just ignore these high class people.
But when they started shouting "USA, USA" I started shouting USA with them. This seemed to confuse the narrow minded so then they just started yelling "booooooooring". I swear all these folks were older than 40 and this wasn't some kind of frat party.
What worried me more was them shouting "allah akbar" and "are you going to have a burka fashion show?". The reason it bothers me is that it exposes what this is really about to them, a war between religions.
You can see some of the pictures I took of this gang in their best Sunday outfit here and here.
The counter protesters then started gloating because they thought Cindy wouldn't show up.
What they didn't know was that Sheehan was just 300 ft away, giving interviews to the press while the counter protesters were busy shouting at us.
Apparently Sheehan feared for her safety and decided not to come closer and give a speech at her own rally. Instead we were all invited at Tally's, an organic grocery store in Charlotte, to meet with Cindy personally there.
My day had been pretty exhausting so I decided to just go home. I might have gone to that grocery store if Bono himself had shown up though.
My "guestimate" is that about 150 protesters were at the rally and about 50 counter protesters.
You can see some pictures of the crowd here, here and here.
I'm looking forward to my next meeting with my biker crew. Until then my "worst president ever" sign is back in my closet.

Our teachers need a yard sale because we can't afford to pay them?

A little article in the paper this weekend caught my eye.
Under the title of "Clean your attic for a good cause" it said:

Kannapolis City Schools is looking to provide a good home for the treasures you find during your summer cleaning. The school system is planning a giant yard sale for its new teachers and wants donations from the community.
The New Teacher Yard Sale won't be an actual sale because everything will be free. At the start of the school year, Kannapolis City Schools will invite its first-year teachers to select from the donated items.
So let me get this straight, we are inviting new teachers to come pick up some of our junk ("in good condition") as a welcome to our area?

How much are we paying these poor folks? Surely the Kannapolis School system (which is separate from the Cabarrus County School system) must be underfunded if their new teachers can't even afford to buy a lamp or chair when they move in?

I'm sure the organization of this yard sale is done with the best intentions, but wouldn't it make a much better impression if we could give these new teachers a little sign on bonus or something ,so they could buy some basic things for their new home or apartment, instead of being dependent on hand outs from the population?

Isn't the City of Kannapolis planning on investing $60 million in infrastructure improvements for the new Research Campus? That investment is not necessarily a bad thing, but maybe we have our priorities a little wrong here?

Twiddling his Twinkie.

You didn't doubt me now, did you?
On Saturday the Charlotte Observer reported what I had already told you 2 days earlier.
They wrote an article about the resignation of republican rep. from Stanly County, David Almond.
You can read The Observers' article on their website.
A few highlights:

Rep. David Almond of Stanly County, had been accused of sexually improper behavior toward his legislative assistant.
"Rep. David Almond, R-Stanly, was accused by his 63-year old legislative assistant this past week of inviting her into his office where he sat exposed."
Told you so!

Still no news about who will replace Mr. almond.
Republicans in the district will name a replacement for Almond to serve out the remainder of his two-year term.

What is it with Republicans and sex?

A republican state representative from neighboring Stanly County has resigned.

Rep. David Almond resigned Thursday from the state Legislature due to an unspecified personnel complaint filed with House leadership, a day after the chamber's GOP caucus said it was looking into allegations of "serious, improper behavior."

"Sadness" was the response to the complaint by Paul Stam the House Republican leader, which he said he first heard about late Monday afternoon, and to Almond's resignation.
Stam, R-Wake, said Republican leaders asked Almond to resign "if the allegations were true," but that Almond resigned on his own.

House speaker Joe Hackney said he received "a personnel complaint" involving Almond last week, but said state and federal confidentiality laws bar him from giving any details.
Now the mainstream media isn't reporting at all what those allegations were. They seem to think it was a "personnel/personal matter" and hence they don't want to report any details. The problem is that this "improper behavior" happened in Mr. Almond's office on taxpayer's time, so that's why I'll tell you what supposedly happened.

This is what allegedly happened:

Rep. Almond was in his office and called his Legal Assistant in to help him with something.

She found him masturbating.

That Legal Assistant has since quit and the Republicans called an emergency caucus and apparently told Almond he needs to resign or face the penalty of the civil suit and or criminal case.

Seems to me that a lot of republicans have such unhealthy repressed feelings about sex that at one point they can't hold back anymore and start doing something stupid.
We had Mark Foley and his fondling of congressional pages and we just had Senator David Vitter, (R-LA), getting in trouble because he frequented a prostitute in Washington DC.
It's also a public secret that there are several high ranking republicans consistently pushing an anti-gay agenda while they are secretly gay themselves. Just a matter of time until those skeletons fall out of the closet (no pun intended).

It is also interesting to know that Rep. Almond is a vice chairman of the House committee on children, youth and families. Nice!

Is it just a matter of time until we find Coy Privette or Robin Hayes with their pants around their ankles?

At least when Clinton got a hummer it was between 2 perfectly consenting adults.

Hypocrite in charge

What George Bush told staffers during a swearing in ceremony for White House staff back in January 2001:

"[We] must remember the high standards that come with high office. This begins with careful adherence to the rules. I expect every member of this administration to stay well within the boundaries that define legal and ethical conduct. This means avoiding even the appearance of problems. This means checking and, if need be, double- checking that the rules have been obeyed. This means never compromising those rules. No one in the White House should be afraid to confront the people they work for, for ethical concerns, and no one should hesitate to confront me as well. We are all accountable to one another. And above all, we are all accountable to the law and to the American people."
What George Bush actually does in 2007:

President Bush commuted the prison term of former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, facing 30 months in prison after a federal court convicted him of perjury, obstruction of justice and lying to investigators.
Bush said that he thought the sentence was "too harsh".

Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald (a Bush appointee) disputed the president's assertion that the prison term was excessive. Libby was sentenced under the same laws as other criminals, Fitzgerald said. "It is fundamental to the rule of law that all citizens stand before the bar of justice as equals," the prosecutor said.

A White House official notified the trial judge, U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton, of the decision. Walton, a Bush appointee who served in the White House under the president's father, had cited the "overwhelming" evidence against Libby when he handed down his sentence.

The commutation does nothing to prevent Libby from appealing his conviction. And if the appeal fails or is still in process at the end of Bush's term, there is nothing to prevent the president from granting Libby a full pardon before he leaves office.
