Obama has already won against McCain.

By proxy that is.

Democrat Bill Foster, endorsed by Barack Obama, has snatched former House Speaker Dennis Hastert's congressional seat in a closely watched special election in Illinois that gave the longtime Republican district to the Democrats. Foster has won 52 percent of the vote compared to 48 percent for Republican Jim Oberweis.

That result was amazing given the 14th District's clear Republican lean.
President Bush won the district, which spans into the far western suburbs of Chicago, with 55 percent in 2004 and 54 percent in 2000.
Hastert won reelection easily for more than two decades.
Bill Foster was endorsed by Barack Obama, and ran on a similar platform of "change". Obama made a TV ad praising Foster. Meanwhile, McCain campaigned for the Republican candidate Jim Oberweis, and fundraised for his campaign.

Watch the Obama ad for Bill Foster:

Foster's win should demonstrate to the Democratic leadership that Obama can help elect more Democrats to Congress, even in formerly "safe" Republican sites.

The defeat is a major setback for the NRCC and House Republicans. The NRCC spent nearly $1.3 million defending the seat, a significant percentage of the $6.4 million the committee showed on hand at the end of January. That is a major investment of limited resources, only to
come up empty.

House Republicans, already dispirited by the loss of their majority in the 2006 election and more than two dozen retirements within their ranks since then, will likely take this defeat hard. Watch to see how many of them will retire over the coming weeks as vulnerable members take the Illinois special election as a sign of things to come in the fall.

Well, Illinois isn't exactly the heartland of Conservative Values is it? Perhaps you should visit the slums of greater Chicago before jumping to conclusions

I guess you weren't wearing your reading glasses:
"Hastert won reelection easily for more than two decades."

Congratulations: You finally figured out that folks hate republicans because they don't live up to their promises and don't love democrats because of the promises they make...

Oh, and I'm glad Obama finally has some skeletons in his closet. I was getting tired of having to stare at all of Hillary's.

But hey, I was always told that black folks can't be racist. the Rev. Wright sure does a heck of a job though...

This isn't so much of a success by the Democrats, as a failure for the US. Our economy is failing and we're about to slide deeper into a recession (dare I say a depression) and yet somehow the people think we need more of a nanny state? We need to move closer to socialism? huh? We can't afford the entitlements we already have on our backs.

The GOP chose the wrong candidate to force on the Republican voters. They had an anti-war candidate who understands economics and they turned their backs on him. The Democrats will win and the US will lose.

Nice of you to drop by "me".
I agree with one part of your tirade:
"The Democrats will win"
and the USA and our whole planet will be the winners.

Thierry, Yous should be excited. I usually don't get the Ron Paul addicts unless I use his name in a post! You got one by mentioning McCain! How does that happen??

Judging by the most recent post on my blog there's still a lot of Ron Paul flamers religiously checking the google for his name and "defending his honor."

I'm still kinda hazy how you can make such bold statements considering the truth in "me"'s post.

We can't afford the entitlements we have. Haven't been able to do so for years. It will only get worse, not better as my fathers generations heads to the pension and social security office.

We've seen what the Carter Administrations answer was and it created stagflation that crippled the entire economy.

Since I've long since stopped paying attention to anything anyone says in the campaigns: Other than a huge across the board tax increase that will further constrict the economy as inflation continues, what is your messiah's answer to everything.

Please spare me the "we'll save when we end the war" diatribe. It's already been conclusively proven that even if we pull everyone out (Which Obamessiah has already backtracked on) we'll still have close to 500 billion dollars per year in budget shortfalls that have to come from somewhere and he's proposed almost 249 billion more in new nifty things that make him more of my daddy than my actual, biological father.

So where does this 749+ billion dollars per year come from??

Anyone? Anyone?

And as for the Rev. Wright: He's been saying this anti-White, Anti-Semetic, Anti American stuff for the entire 20 years Obamessiah has been a member of his church. Some lip service denouncement doesn't fly with me. It didn't fly with former KKK member David Duke and I'm not giving any additional leeway for the "O-man" for any reason... Skeletons Skeletons Skeletons...

"By ending a war that's costing us billions, closing tax loopholes for corporations, putting a price on carbon pollution, and ending George Bush's tax cuts for the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans."

Now, Once again for the question:

If we end the war we will still have 500 billion dollars to make up for.

Simple addition of the neato things Obama wants to do is about 249 Billion.

That's 749 Billion dollars that will still have to come from somewhere. EACH YEAR.

Where doe's it come from? The Obama -Fairy?

Simple questions that need complete answers. Not some two bit canned response that could have come from ANY democrat who's EVER run for president.

Oberweis was an awful candidate. The guy has run for Senate twice and Governor once and lost all three times. There was a solid conservative in the running for this seat, Chris Lauzen, but Hastert got behind Oberweis, only God knows why, and so the GOP lost the seat. Lauzen would have held it without any problems. The Republicans get what they deserve.
