Thursday, August 28 2008 was a historic day not only for this country, but also for me.
After a process that lasted about 15 months, i was sworn in as a new US citizen at the USCIS offices in Charlotte. With me, 102 other citizens from 45 different countries were sworn in as new Americans.
And if that wasn't enough, that same night i was treated to one of the most amazing speeches i heard in my lifetime, live from Denver, delivered by the first African-American Presidential candidate for a major political party, exactly 45 years after M. L. King gave his "I have a dream" speech.
Today i handed in my voter registration form at the Cabarrus County Board of Elections and i'm very much looking forward to casting my first vote in the USA for an historic presidential candidate. No, it won't be for the oldest candidate in history.

Congratulations!!
Congratulations Thierry. You will make a great American as others before you have. Your excitement about our government and your new voting power has inspired many of us to get involved on these blogs.
Thanks!
I'm excited :-)
Congratulations Thierry!!!
A belated congratulations; I'm playing catch up on my media surfing.
It's an awesome thing to be part of, regardless of which side of the debate you're on...
Thanks Chris.
Now I can cancel out your vote :-)
Hey, long time since I've been by here.
I'm glad to hear it. It's a great thing to have folks who are informed and opinionated joining our ranks.
I was rather befuddled when I saw the image with the Belgian and American flags together. Then I read the post!
I was surprised some passerby moron didn't leave a stupid comment about it not being patriotic or something else stupid like that. You know what them zenophobes are like :)
